Football Manager 2019: SLFC – Road to the Premier League #5

The journey continues as Sporting Loft FC look to get back to winning ways.

Last episode saw reality bite when SLFC narrowly lost a Carabao Cup encounter against Coventry on penalties.

Despite this result, we are still undefeated in the league and are playing possession dominating football that will stand us in good stead when the big ocasions come calling.

Our next game came in the form of an away trip to Crewe and I was determined to get back to winning ways, but it wouldn’t be easy.

Crewe v Sporting Loft FC

This fixture was all about the 3 points – and that’s exactly what we got from the game.

Crewe, despite owning the home advantage, failed to dominate proceedings and only had the minority of possession. It didn’t help them that we scored within the first ten minutes!

What followed was a fairly comfortable victory – apart from the unprompted red card for Jordi 0sei-Tutu on the stroke of halftime. This didn’t alter the course of the match and we ran out winners.

Sporting Loft FC v Grimsby

Grimsby at home should have been another routine victory and at one point it was well on its way to being so.

After 22 minutes we lead by a Mal Benning strike, ten minutes later it was a two goal advantage and just after halftime it was three. Then it all went wrong…

In an inexplicable half an hour, Grimsby scored three unanswered goals. Disastrous defending and a last minute effort stole the W from our grasp.

With our attempts reading 21 shots against their eight – it is unbelievable we didn’t see the game out. Lessons must be learned from this.

Sporting Loft FC v Exeter

Conceding last minute goals needs to stop before it becomes a trademark for Sporting Loft FC.

The game couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start, as the visitors scored just after five minutes on the clock. It was an uphill battle from the get go.

The rest of the game was heavily in our favour and we earned ourselves two goals and lead the game. However, two late scores, one of which came in the 90th minute, put us to the sword and the game ended 3-2 in their favour.

The one thing I can take from all of these games is the overall performance from the team. The stats are heavily in our favour, despite drawing and losing in some of the games.

If we continue in this grain of form and start to out away more of our chances – we will see out these tight games and be in a very good place.

The only way is up from here.
